Village community center

In 1973, planning began for the conversion of the former school into a village community center with a fire station. The aim was to accommodate family and club celebrations as well as the needs of local associations. The conversion then took place between 1975 and 1977. In March 1977, the house was inaugurated with a ceremony.

Since then it has been the center of village life because of its many uses. It has a large hall of 140 m² for meetings and celebrations of all kinds. The hall also provides space for the exercise classes of the gym club. Another, smaller room of 54 m² is used for church events and practice sessions of the church and trombone choir. The marksmen have a shooting range and a recreation room in the basement. The fire department has also found a home with a fire department garage and crew room.

The DGH was also the largest project of the village renewal in Elnrode/Strang. In 2006, the go-ahead was given for the renovation. The residents of Elnrode and Strang also got involved and provided 4670 hours’ worth of volunteer work. This corresponds to a work value of about one hundred thousand euros. In March 2009, the renovated DGH was officially inaugurated.

Today, there is a barrier-free entrance, a barrier-free toilet with alarm function as well as a large kitchen and a tea kitchen. The large hall can be divided by a mobile partition wall so that events can take place in parallel. It is equipped with a modern bar and has a beamer for digital media presentations.

All these rooms can be used for club events and family celebrations. The costs and contact persons for use can be found on the homepage of the municipality of Jesberg.
